Keratin Bond Hair Extensions FAQs

What are keratin-bonded hair extensions?

Keratin bond hair extensions are tiny groups of individual hair strands that are attached to your natural hair using a keratin-based plastic. They may be used to add volume, length, and/or pops of color without chemically altering your natural hair. The bond is heated to encapsulate your hair, creating a secure and long-lasting attachment. There is no glue, tape, or adhesive making for a painless application and removal.

How long do keratin bonds take to install?
The application process can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the number of extensions being applied and the level of transformation that is being achieved.

How are keratin bonds installed and how long do they last?
The bond is heated to encapsulate your hair, creating a secure and long-lasting attachment. There is no glue, tape, or adhesive making for a painless application and removal. With proper care and maintenance, keratin-bonded hair extensions can last between 3 to 6 months.

Who can wear keratin bonds? Can I get keratin bonds with short hair?
They are a great option for almost anyone looking to get extensions, even with the shortest hair! If you’re in an active shedding phase, you may have to wait until it regulates to have them installed.

What types of hair are used in keratin bond extensions?
Our high-quality keratin-bonded extensions are hand made in our salon with 100% human hair, either remy or virgin hair, ensuring a natural look and feel. We match any color, pattern, and texture for a totally individualized experience.

How often are maintenance appointments for keratin bonds?
There is no maintenance or “move-up” with keratin bonds. When they’re at the end of their wear, the extensions are removed by simply breaking down the bond and sliding out of the hair. They may be reinstalled immediately so long as the natural hair is the same or better condition than when first applied.

Can keratin bond hair extensions be reused?
In most cases, keratin-bonded hair extensions can be reused but more hair will need to be added to compensate for fallout during the wear and removal process. Hair that is being reused must be cut at the top to be reencapsulated with keratin, and at the ends to trim the normal wear.

How should I care for my keratin bonds?
Avoid applying conditioner, oil or alcohol-based products directly to the bonds as this will break down the bonds and allow them to slip out. Gently brush your hair ends to roots with a soft bristle brush to prevent tangling daily.

Can I wash my hair normally with keratin bonds?
Yes, but you should avoid washing your hair too frequently. Aim to wash it no more than 2-3 times a week using gentle, extension-safe products and techniques.

Can I heat style my hair with keratin bonds?
Yes! You should be cautious not to touch the bonds with excessive heat from any source, but you may heat style per usual with a blowdryer, flat or curling iron.

Do keratin bond extensions damage natural hair?

When applied and maintained correctly by a professional, keratin-bonded extensions should not cause damage. Improper application or lack of maintenance can lead to damage. It’s crucial to work with a stylist who can assess the condition of your hair and apply the extensions in a way that avoids excessive strain on your natural hair.

How much do keratin bond extensions typically cost?
The cost can vary widely depending on the quality of the hair, the number of extensions, and the salon’s pricing. Typically, it ranges from $1200 to $3500.

In addition to these being the lowest maintenance extension type available, keratin bonds are able to move 360 degrees (unlike wefts and tapes that move up and down) like your natural hair. They can be made to custom suit any density, texture, color, and curl pattern.
